I-4 / Lee Roy Selmon Expressway Interchange
Tampa, Florida
Project Description
The $411 million I-4/Lee Roy Selmon Expressway Interchange (Connector) is a limited-access, four level interchange that extends from the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway to Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County. The Connector includes a series of 12 elevated ramps that provide a vital transportation link in Downtown Tampa and offer dedicated access to the port. The Connector completes an important regional link in the Tampa Interstate System.
The Connector includes over one million square feet of precast segmental concrete bridges. There are over 2,764 precast segments with variations in width from 30’ to 60’. The precast segmental superstructure is constructed span-by-span using an overhead gantry and in balanced-cantilever using both deck-mounted segment lifters and ground-based cranes. Of the 149 segmental spans, lengths range from 105’ to 260’ with radii as small as 590’ and cross-slopes up to 10%.
